Therapists for college students near New York, NY
Are you an international or domestic student living away from home? Do you feel overwhelmed? Confused and homesick? These are common experiences that I can help you cope with as I moved from Mexico, my home country, to start my new life here in the United States when I was 18 years old. I am a native Spanish speaker and identify as Hispanic/Latina. My therapeutic philosophy is grounded in teamwork and following your pace in the therapy room, whether we meet online or in the office, as we explore the stress and pain that brings you to therapy. I appreciate your bravery in seeking the support you deserve. Do not hesitate to reach out via email, call or text. I look forward to hearing from you!

I work with young adults facing challenges such as depression, anxiety, obsessional thinking, mood disorders, and relationship stress. As a DBT-trained therapist, I integrate acceptance and change strategies to help clients achieve their goals, deepen self-understanding, and develop practical skills to navigate the toughest of days.
I am passionate about providing expert, compassionate care to children, adolescents, and young adults struggling with eating and weight disorders, emotion dysregulation, anxiety, depression, self-injurious behaviors, suicidal ideation, and personality disorders. With extensive training in evidence-based treatments, including CBT, DBT, and FBT, I tailor my approach to each client’s unique needs, helping them build resilience, develop effective coping strategies, and achieve meaningful, lasting change. Most recently, I served as the Director of the Intensive Program at the Center of Excellence in Eating & Weight Disorders at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, where I co-developed a specialized young adult track for college students requiring a higher level of outpatient care. I am committed to staying at the forefront of research and treatment advancements. If you or your loved one are seeking expert, evidence-based care in a supportive and collaborative environment, I would be honored to work with you.
My guide in counseling is to create a safe and welcoming environment that promotes autonomy, open and honest communication and support to be who you are, where you are while working on where you want to be. For many, the notion of therapy implies that “something is wrong” when it is quite the opposite. The clarity it takes to acknowledge, accept and receive therapy or ‘mind maintenance’ as I like to call it, means you are self-aware, and there is nothing wrong with that. I specialize in a bad day with academic stress, social anxiety and depression but I can also work with a good day!
I am a mature psychoanalyst who has experience working with college students and other young adults who are facing life transitions. My areas of strength are working with trauma and BPD. You may be carrying a lot of trauma even if you don't identify yourself as a trauma survivor. My approach is not goal or coach oriented. I do not give advice rather I help people to get in touch with their authentic self so that they may be better able to cope with life's challenges.
Coming Out - Gay Issues - Sex Issues - Sexuality - Sexual addiction/compulsion - Gender - Anxiety - Depression - Past Trauma - Fears Phobias - Self-Esteem - Relationship and Family - Male survivors of sexual abuse - Open relationships - Intimacy - Loneliness - HIV - OCD - Grief/Loss therapy - Cognitive behavioral therapy. When facing life's difficult challenges, it is good to know that there are places that you can turn to for help and guidance. However, finding a gay therapist can be anxiety producing because when people decide they would benefit from seeing a therapist, they are often experiencing significant upset in their lives. This is usually not the ideal moment to be dealing with the stress involved in finding someone with whom it feels safe and right to be vulnerable. I am aware of this and I want you to know that when we meet you will find yourself in a comfortable setting where you will be able to tell your story in strict confidence and without the worries of judgment or pressure of any type. We will discuss what you are interested in working on and how I will be able to help you. There will be no pressure to make any decisions or commitments. . I believe that therapy is a tool for fixing interpersonal problems, helping with painful life situations, tackling the "tough stuff", helping fine tune relationships, and getting back on the road to success in life. Sometimes things don't quite work out as planned and a time of transition can become a major life challenge. My role is to help identify the most difficult parts of this change and to support you so you can move into these new phases with greater support and confidence.” I have over twenty years of multifaceted clinical experience working successfully with clients of different age, gender, religion, culture and personality. My therapeutic experience with clients includes a broad range of issues including depression, mood disorders, past trauma, anxiety, stress grief, loss, intimacy, communication skills, self-esteem and body image, personal growth and life transitions. My treatment goal My focus is to help individuals heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths. Reducing pain, shame and increase self-steam is an important component of treatment.
