Therapists for college students near Northeastern University
Hi there! I'm here to help you find balance and compassion in your life. I see you as the expert of your experience and together, with my professional background, we can devise a plan and take steps to help you find your true authentic self. I have vast experience working with children, teens, college students, and adults. For many students, college is an exciting time of self discovery but there can also be many challenges along the way. I can assist in talking about the stress of school work and being away from home or other daily struggles such as a roommate issue or a new relationship. I have a person centered approach and like to meet my clients where they are at. My specialities include art therapy, trauma focused CBT, and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). I take insurances and offer both telehealth and in -person options. Reach out to see if we are a good fit!
I believe that relationships determine a lot about how we interact with the world - in both helpful and less helpful ways. Our behaviors, attitudes, thoughts, feelings, and relationship styles are reinforced over time by our experiences, families, partners, environments, and culture. Psychotherapy can help when stress, trauma, life transitions, or difficult relationships call for new ways of coping and navigating our lives. My approach integrates evidence-based practices shown to be effective including, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Family Systems, Attachment Theory, and an Interpersonal Process approach, to provide highly individualized psychotherapy services to my clients. Together, we will work to define your treatment goals and to create new patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating to others and the world around you. This collaborative process will help you feel more connected to your values and to engage more fully in your life.

My therapeutic approach is practical and flexible, grounded in psychodynamic psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and exposure therapy. I am not your typical therapist, and strive to always create that emotional connection that allows us to work through any issue as a team. Most of my clients have already tried traditional therapy, and haven't been able to engage in one way or the other. Many of my clients haven't felt heard or understood, and it is a goal of mine to make therapy accessible for all. My belief as a therapist is that everyone can benefit- and should benefit from the relationship they have with their therapist. My clients believe in person centered care- and feedback goes both ways. I provide a trauma informed environment where the client gets to lead. As a therapist, my main goal is to meet you where you are at and go from there. Over time my skills have been honed for working with struggling teens, self injury, LGBT youth, and families. I have a unique approach to all of these, but have seen fantastic results in all areas. I also enjoy family coaching, and offer an on call service for families. If you need a 'ride or die' therapist- that's me. I'm committed to navigating any and all concerns and barriers when working together- no problem is too big. When we agree to work together, I am committing to finding times during the week that work for you. My availability is based on you.

Hello, and welcome! I’m Kimberly Masterson, a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) dedicated to supporting college students through life’s challenges. College can be an exciting yet stressful time, and it's completely normal to feel overwhelmed by the demands of school, social life, and future plans. If you’ve been struggling with anxiety, depression, past trauma, or ADHD, you’re not alone, and it’s okay to seek help. In our work together, I provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can talk openly about what’s on your mind. Whether you're feeling anxious about exams, coping with the weight of past experiences, or managing difficulties with focus and organization, I’ll help you develop practical tools to feel more in control and connected to your goals. You don’t have to face these challenges by yourself. My approach is understanding and tailored to meet you where you are, so we can work at your pace to help you feel better and move forward in your life. If you’re ready to take the next step toward feeling like yourself again, I’d be honored to support you in your journey.
I earned my PsyD (Doctor of Psychology) degree at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and I have worked in different settings including university/community counseling centers, dual diagnosis treatment centers, and psychiatric hospitals (Austen Riggs Center). I work from a psychoanalytic orientation. This approach emphasizes the importance of both past and present experiences, relationships, emotions, patterns of being, and the unconscious. While it is natural to want to move away from suffering, it is when we give it a voice that healing can begin. Though genetics can play a role in the development of psychiatric problems; symptoms are some of the ways our psyche and body deal with pain that has not been understood, contextualized, and articulated. My goal as a psychoanalytic therapist is to help my patients notice how their symptoms are not accidental experiences to dodge, but rather meaningful communications to explore. Only through this inquiry can patients tap into interpersonal and intrapersonal as well as conscious and unconscious phenomena that have shaped their life and continue to contribute to their suffering.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and also a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor I (LADC I). I have a Masters of Education in mental health, addictions, and marriage and family therapy. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Family Systems Therapy.

It has always been my take on life that we must find joy and satisfaction in what we do and who we are. I have been working as a mental health professional since 2006 and I find joy in the work that I do each and every day. I prioritize creating a healthy balance between the work that I love, my self-care, and time with my family. I value the opportunity I have to help people find their way and find balance in their lives, whether this is through closure with the past or building new skills to cope with current life challenges. I knew when I was a teenager that this is the work that I wanted to do. I have always felt drawn towards helping people. I received my undergraduate degree from Flagler College in Florida and earned my Graduate degree from Assumption College here in MA. Right out of school, I worked for South Bay Mental Health doing in-home therapy. Once I became licensed I moved into an office setting and I worked at Arbour Counseling for about 8 years. After which I started graduating into private practice. A few colleagues and I came together to create Grove Counseling Services in Worcester, MA. Until COVID-19 presented, we were thriving. I now work out of Millbury, MA and continue to do what I love.
