Therapists for college students near Northeastern University
Amy is an LICSW at Therapy for You. As a trained social worker and practicing therapist, I've worked with clients across the life span and with a vast spectrum of challenges. I previously worked in inpatient psychiatric care for adults, and currently work as a therapist for middle school children in a school-based health center. I truly believe the client is the expert of their experience, and I approach my work with clients as a supportive guide to help you work through life's struggles. My work experience has included helping clients manage anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, relationship stress, grief/loss, and I am particularly passionate about women's issues. I have experience with CBT, DBT, ACT, and Narrative therapy, and will work with you to discover the most helpful approach. I look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your goals.
I am the mythical therapist who understands gender, trauma, and neurodivergence at the same time. They told you it was impossible, but they were wrong! Iām right here! Instead of teaching you buzzwords and therapyspeak, I can help you build the relational skills to communicate what you feel, want, and need in your own words. I can guide you in exploring identity and building a resilient sense of self. My approach is a fairly eclectic mix of modalities, but always relational and attachment-based. I practice from a neurodiversity lens and am well-versed in understanding and meeting the needs of clients living with autism, ADHD, and other flavors of neurodivergence. I am passionate about helping you better understand your nervous system, to contextualize why you do what you do and figure out what you need. I also know that each person I work with has been shaped not only by their individual history, but by the culture(s) and systems of power that surround them. I see naming and exploring those forces as a liberatory and necessary part of therapy. When Iām not seeing clients, I may be found spending time with friends, hiking or camping, making pottery, hanging out with my dog, reading, playing video games, or crocheting. In terms of social location, I am a white queer transmasculine/genderqueer millennial and have lived experience with neurodivergence.

Feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or hopeless? Emotions running wild? Past traumas haunting your present? As a trained therapist, I specialize in addressing underlying issues swiftly. With warmth and empathy, I'll create a safe space for you to overcome these struggles and transition from simply surviving to thriving. As a therapist, I act as an emotional support, teacher, and guide on the clientās journey so they gain the skills, insight, and confidence they need. I firmly believe that everyone has the capacity to grow and heal from whatever they have experienced in life. I am trained in EMDR which is a powerful therapy technique that can facilitate the reprocessing of traumatic or negative experiences. It reduces emotional distress and promotes healing, leading to improved emotional well-being and a greater sense of empowerment. I am also trained in IFS, which is a transformative therapy approach that helps individuals understand their emotional struggles. It views the mind as a system of different parts, each with its own unique role and purpose. By fostering self-awareness and compassion, IFS allows individuals to develop a harmonious relationship with their internal parts leading to increased self-acceptance, improved emotional regulation, and a greater sense of wholeness and inner peace.

If you are looking for support with self-exploration and self-esteem; experiencing relationship stress, depression or anxiety; adjusting to life at school or other big changes; or if you just feel like you need somewhere to unpack things you've been carrying for too long -- let's talk. I welcome every piece of your journey with radical acceptance - the grit, the shame, the parts we all try to hide and bury away. The funny thing about those things is, we all have them. I love therapy because it gives that stuff some room to breathe - which gives YOU room to breathe. And reboot. And make plans for what comes next. Over my years in the field, I've developed an approach to therapy that combines creativity and collaboration, focusing on a trusting, safe connection as the bedrock of our work. I utilize a variety of talk and expressive therapy modalities and love approaching things through a non-traditional lens. Connecting with a therapist when you're already struggling can be really overwhelming. Be proud that you're taking this first step right now. With time and space to bear witness to the answers you have within yourself, and a person you trust to help, it becomes easier to feel better and find the ground beneath your feet.
Are you looking for a warm, supportive, and safe space to heal anxiety, depression, ADHD, or deal with a overwhelm, a transition, or relationships? Are you struggling at school because of these issues? Are you worried about your next steps after graduation? I can help you claim the happiness you deserve. If you're ready to be happier, I can help you get the tools you need to create the life you deserve.
