Therapists for college students near Georgia State University
I specialize in working with college and graduate students, young professionals, and couples, empowering them to develop skills to manage anxiety, stress, relationship challenges, and explore their self-identity. I also work with first generation and children of immigrants and am committed to maintaining a culturally-informed practice that honors the different ways that people experience and think of their identity. Navigating the complexities of life can be challenging, especially when you’re dealing with things like anxiety, relationship issues, and major life transitions. Maybe you're struggling with the pressure of classes, or with adjusting to your new environment and building relationships. Or you might feel like you’re always anxious about getting things right or not knowing what's going to happen, and worry is becoming exhausting. Perhaps you're at a point where you want to learn more about the impact of your cultural background on your identity and explore the experiences you've had. Going to therapy can be a courageous step towards personal growth and self-reflection to develop the tools needed to manage symptoms and align ourselves more with our goals. Whether you're navigating major life transitions, managing work-related stress, or facing challenges in your relationships, my practice provides a supportive space to help you build resilience. By incorporating evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy with compassion and mindfulness focused models, I provide a non-judgemental and empathetic environment in my work with clients. For couples therapy, I utilize the Gottman method to help couples improve their relationships. I am licensed in the state of Georgia as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC015213). I earned my M.S. in Counseling with an emphasis on Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Johns Hopkins University, and a B.A. in Psychology, English, & Classical Studies from Emory University. I provide both in-person and virtual sessions to make therapy accessible and convenient for clients in the Decatur area and beyond. Whenever you’re ready to take a step towards therapy, I would be happy to speak with you and answer any questions you may have about the therapeutic process over an initial consultation. A licensed psychologist, I received both my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and my M.S. in Professional Counseling from Georgia State University. When faced with difficult situations, we often feel discouraged. I believe that a safe, supportive environment is key to growth, and I offer plenty of encouragement. I help clients gain perspective through empathic exploration. We’re all doing the best we can in life, but sometimes we get in our own way. As much as I’m comfortable with deep emotions, I also believe in the importance of bringing laughter and humor into the room!
We work best with patients who are looking for personalized, attentive psychiatric care. Our providers combine careful medication management with brief psychotherapy, taking time at every visit to connect with you as a whole person. We don't believe in overmedicating. We believe in listening, asking the right questions, and finding the simplest, most effective path to you feeling well.

Hello! I am a sex-positive psychologist with specialized training in increasing “cliteracy” and working with sexual functioning concerns (orgasm difficulties, pain during sex, low sexual desire). My generalist expertise includes anxiety, relationship concerns (friends, family, and romantic), body image, grief, spirituality, and depression. I provide individual and and couples therapy to clients of all sexual/gender/kink/CNM identities. I know it can be hard to start therapy or to share our true emotional selves with a new person (even over video!) I use my down to earth nature, compassion, intuition, natural curiosity, – and sometimes even humor- to gently guide your growth. Together, we can explore experiences, emotions or barriers preventing you from living your most meaningful life. I value processing how intersectional identities and structures of oppression contribute to distress and pain. I have seen how the combination of a trusting therapeutic relationship, honoring your inner truths, and compassionately connecting to your emotions can nurture lasting change. “The wound is the place where the light enters you.” ― Rumi. Let's embark on this healing journey together.
I have been in practice for over 35 years and feel I have a great ability to connect with people. I have worked with college-aged young adults for most of my career and enjoy helping individuals cope with the stress and challenges of this time in their lives. I have specialized in treating eating disorders for over 20 years. I also work on issues pertaining to relationships, depression and anxiety.
I believe myplace is to journey alongside you as a companion, offering guidance and perspective to empower you towards healthy choices and lifestyles. I believe everyone has their own strengths, values, and virtues that can be used to help guide the therapeutic process. I often see clients who feel stuck or overwhelmed by their emotions. I also frequently work with matters of meaning making, queerness, and spirituality. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or for a free consultation.
As a therapist, I work with depression, anxiety, addiction, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, and significant life transitions. Having particular insight into dysfunctional family systems, I offer compassionate support for those navigating complex family-of-origin experiences. At the heart of my practice is the belief that everyone possesses the capacity to heal and grow. I create a therapeutic environment characterized by compassion and curiosity, providing a safe space for clients to explore experiences, discover strengths, and move toward meaningful change. I specialize in working with clients who want to heal from the experience of growing up in addicted or dysfunctional family systems. By examining childhood trauma and generational patterns, we will work to foster the emotional growth, improved relationships, and freedom from codependency that emerge when we rediscover our authentic selves and live in alignment with our personal integrity. I also worked in student affairs/higher education administration for 13 years and have extensive experience supporting young adults through the various challenges of adjusting to, navigating, and transitioning to life after college and graduate school.
Who would you be if you believed you actually could? If you knew you already are? My approach to therapy centers on the belief that “healing is making whole.” Whether dealing with issues of addiction, depression and anxiety, self-knowledge and self-worth, sexual orientation and gender identity, trauma or relationship concerns, life transitions attention is, therefore, given to the whole of the individual – heart, mind, body and soul. So many of us feel stuck, repeating patterns of behavior we consciously experience a desire to let go of. What keeps us doing what we believe we don’t want to do is that we are disconnected from the places within us where our actions come from. In my work with clients I care most about helping others uncover their truth – without judgment. I see psychotherapy as an invitation and permission to reveal, explore and practice embodying the wholeness of who we are, in order to develop a greater sense of fullness, choice and empowerment in our lives. And I very much see psychotherapy as a partnership and a journey, one which I am repeatedly humbled and grateful to be allowed to accompany others on. In addition, as a certified yoga instructor, the teachings of classical yoga inform my psychotherapy work with both individuals and couples. Yoga ‘on the mat’ may be a possible element of our work for interested clients, but more often this takes the form of our exploring how to live and practice the principles of yoga ‘off the mat.’

We queer folks navigate the world differently from cis-het individuals, which comes with both unique challenges and profound beauty. While I work with people of all identities, including heterosexual and cisgender clients, my specialty lies in supporting queer, trans, and gender-diverse individuals (LGBTQIA+ folks). I'm dedicated to creating a safe, affirming, and empowering space, where you can gain insight, get in touch with your emotions, and connect with your authentic self, free from fear or judgment. My approach to therapy is collaborative, compassionate, and insight-oriented. We’ll work together to deepen your connection with yourself and others. You'll gain deeper insight into the patterns shaping your life, exploring how they developed and if you'd like to shift them to better serve you. I'll meet you where you're at, as we explore what it means for you to live more fully and on your own terms. I also understand that life can be challenging, and society often encourages us to suppress painful emotions. When we bury these feelings, they can manifest in ways that cause more harm— whether by straining relationships, fueling irritability, or even leading to physical issues. In our work together, I’ll support you in bringing these emotions to the surface, giving them the space they need to be explored and processed for healing. Through it all, I’ll be by your side, offering warmth, understanding, and steady support as we navigate the path toward healing and growth together. I’m part of the clinical team at the Aguirre Center for Inclusive Psychotherapy, where we’re committed to offering anti-oppressive, inclusive, and culturally-affirming care. Shoot me an email or text, and let's jump on a free phone consultation to see if we're a good fit! I'm looking forward to connecting with you. I am currently working under the direction of Dr. Sophia Aguirre and under the supervision of Carrie Gensler LPC, CPCS in pursuit of licensure as Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Georgia. I like to see this as you having multiple therapists, collaborating, to help you best meet your goals!
