I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. I have over 22 years of experience working with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, and trauma-related symptoms. I am dedicated to providing compassionate and effective support to individuals and families navigating challenges. My goal is to help clients achieve lasting positive change through evidence-based practices and personalized care.
My approach
I am primarily a client-centered therapist. This means that my client’s beliefs and values are what drive the overall treatment. I aim to respect their beliefs and values while helping them to make meaningful changes in their lives. I utilize Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) as my primary approach to providing therapy. However, I am rather eclectic. I work with my clients based on their individual needs and use a variety of modalities, such as narrative therapy, bibliotherapy, and solution-focused therapy, depending on the client’s needs and focus. Cognitive Therapy is evidence-based and helps individuals identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors. By helping clients develop healthier thinking patterns and coping strategies, the aim is to empower clients to manage their mental health. Through personalized and structured sessions, I work collaboratively with my clients to assist them in achieving their therapeutic goals.
My focus
My focus has mostly been working with children, adolescents, and adults who are struggling with depression, anxiety, and trauma-related symptoms in individual and/or family sessions.
My communication style
My aim is to use active listening skills, empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard. In addition, my goal is to develop trust and rapport so that I can help my clients develop healthier ways of dealing with problems.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have loved helping others since I was a child. I have overcome several obstacles in my life and feel the need to pass on what has helped me. I began counseling while in the United States Army, serving as my unit's Drug and Alcohol Coordinator in addition to serving as my unit's Retention NCO. I believe in the concept of "paying it forward". In other words, whatever blessings I have been given, I need to pass them on to others.
My goals for you
Goal setting is personal and individual. This is a collaborative process and usually takes 1-2 sessions. We will collaborate on what’s most important for you to focus on so that we can make the most of our time together. I would recommend that we focus on only one goal at a time. Once you’ve reached that goal, we can choose others when appropriate.
My first session with you
Our first session will be dedicated to getting to know each other, discussing what brought you to counseling, and determining a course of action.
